Here is what's new in District 191

Here is a round-up of changes around the school district for the 2008-08 school year, which began on Sept. 2.

Seventy-five new teachers have joined the district — the highest number in many years. Some were hired to replace the 28 teachers who retired at the end of the last school year. But the others were hired for new teaching positions that were made possible by the successful levy referendum last November. The levy was designed specifically to return class sizes to the more favorable levels of the 2006-07 school year.

The preschool program, called Tiny Tots, fosters the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of young children.
